Day One:

  

All Groups

 

1. I will return last week's work and award green cards to those with perfect scores.

 

2. We will break down a Sample Paragraph into it's 3 essential parts:

    B. Supporting Sentences

 

    C. Conclusion Sentence

5. Flashback Writing Assignment: Write a brief story (1 page) in which a person remembers an important even from the past. First write one or two sentences about the present. Then use a flashback to show the event from the past. Finally, end your story with one or two sentences in the present again. You may want to use one of the following events: (a) The winner of a surf contest remebers his first day on a board. (b) A person remembers rescuing her puppy from a shelter five years ago.

2. Paragraph samples: In order for me to see your understanding of paragraph writing, you will be asked to write a 1 paragraph response to a prompt related to the short story you just heard.

 

3. We will use www.myths.e2bn.org to create a story similar to "The Mixed-Up Feet and the Silly Bridegroom." In "The Mixed-Up Feet..." the people of Chelm are all fools. You will use this online comic creator to illustrate a story about another fictional town where all the people share one trait (for example, extreme laziness, unusual clothing, or acrobatic skill). In your comic you must create at least 10 slides that show your imaginary town, its people and their main trait. You must also include at least 10 lines of dialogue, two semicolons, an ellipsis and 4 vocabulary words that we have studied this quarter.

Since you are learning so much about Native American history from Mr.Tallman, we will spend our afternoon classes studying  stories and narratives from a variety of tribes.

 

1. This week we will begin by studying various Native American poetry.

 

2. We will discuss common themes that we find between tribal orations.

 

3. We will highlight these common themes and create our own poems that express gratitude toward nature.

 

4. We will share our poems in class.

1.  Character Clash- you will be assigned to two fictional characters at the ebeginning of class. Maybe they will be an athelete and a fan or a surgeon and patient. Your job will be to create an imaginary, 1 page dialogue between these two characters. More details will be given in class.
